Leslie M. Thornton, CEO; Hypnosis for Permanent Weight Loss

Having been initially sceptical about the benefits of hypnosis, Leslie M. Thornton, a trained nurse, learned more about the craft and is now the CEO of a hypnosis consultancy. Leslie talks to The Industry Leaders about why she began looking at hypnosis as a therapy for weight loss and how she helps people become leaders of their passions.

How did you end up sitting where you are today?

I struggled with food, body, and weight my entire life. I did every diet under the sun, always wishing that I could be granted 3 wishes by a genie to not have to worry about gaining weight anymore.

I'm a nurse by trade, so when I found hypnosis, I was a HUGE sceptic. If this worked, why wouldn't they teach me this in nursing school? But I was desperate and hypnotized myself.

Before the hypnosis, I was obsessed with food; after the hypnosis, I had total peace and freedom around food, my, body and weight — my life has never been the same since. And I've made it my life's work to help people out of the mental obsession ever since so they can have freedom too.

What kind of work does your role involve?

Coaching, somatic work, hypnosis, subconscious reprogramming, and community. All create a system of support to make being free from food a permanent lifestyle.

What gets you excited about your industry?

The fact that we see people who have had lifelong struggles stop obsessing about food in one week.

In sum: the work works.

What's the best advice anyone ever gave you?

Yesterday is gone; tomorrow hasn't happened yet. We have only today; let us begin. (Mother Theresa didn't give me this personally!) but someone said it to me, and it was the best advice I'd been given.

How do you support aspiring leaders in your field?

At Hypnosis for Permanent Weight Loss we believe that people can present their own potential and greatness and change the world without mental obsession. I couldn't have become the leader that I am today if it were not for hypnosis.

I know there are millions of people stuck where I was that are destined to be leaders but can't because they don't have what I have. My commitment is that all human beings get this work and become leaders in their own realm/passion so that the world and human beings have a chance to survive.

How do you keep up to speed with what's happening in your industry?

I am highly invested in leadership coaching from cutting edge coaches who trickle down their knowledge to me. I'm also constantly taking new personal and professional development courses to continue to support my leadership and consciousness.

What was the most challenging project or situation you've overcome?

Growing my business to $30k per month and going from a team of 1 to 9 in 1.75 years.

You finish work today and step outside the office to find a lottery ticket that ends up winning $10 million. What would you do?

Pay my team a lot more money, hire people to make my program look like a million bucks, buy a new wardrobe, buy a car, invest in stocks to make more.

How do you switch off after a day at work?

Go for a beautiful evening walk in nature and having a romantic dinner with my partner.

If you had one wish for the future of your industry, what would it be?

That everyone did the landmark forum.
