Beverley Bramwell, Thomas Bramwell outdoor living
Beverly Bramwell is the Founder of Thomas Bramwell Outdoor Living. Beverley took some time to talk to The Industry Leaders about how she got into the bespoke furniture industry and recalls the challenge of getting furniture ready in time for an inspection by Her Majesty the Queen!
How did you end up sitting where you are today?
I began my career as a visual merchandiser working with major High Street Retailers. I then progressed into the role of home Furnishing Coordinator for Laura Ashley, North America and Europe.
Following 7 years of continuous development, I made the decision to start my own company.
What kind of work does your role involve?
My role involves a few main tasks:
Leadership and managing others and projects.
Developing client relationships.
Resourcing both products and suppliers.
Managing P&L.
Creating innovative solutions for clients.
What gets you excited about your industry?
I get excited about working with my clients, helping them visualise and ultimately see their project come to fruition. My industry allows me to build strong and long term relationships with both clients and suppliers.
It's a fun, ever-changing industry.
What's the best advice anyone ever gave you?
Don't give up; there's always a solution.
What, or who inspires you?
My late Mother inspired me; she was strong and supportive.
Living by the sea inspires me too; every time I look out of my window, I get a second wind and sense of calm.
How do you keep up to speed with what's happening in your industry?
Reading, travelling and networking - using all platforms!
What was the most challenging project or situation you've overcome?
It would be the RHS Chelsea Flower Show in 2012 where we made Bison Furniture we designed from recycled material. We worked through the night to get them ready for the show, only to find out our other designs made in Asia had been stopped and held by customs one day before opening!
Ultimately we had it released at the 11th hour by authorities of Her Majesty, and the recycled seating was a huge success. The Queen was able to enjoy the furniture we designed for one of the show gardens, after all.
You finish work today and step outside the office to find a lottery ticket that ends up winning $10 million. What would you do?
I would have to find out who that lottery ticket belonged to and give it back to them, of course!
How do you switch off after a day at work?
Walk my dog along the beach. Eat a great meal, and enjoy a good glass of wine.
If you had one wish for the future of your industry, what would it be?
Never to have Covid or another pandemic.
What book or podcast should everyone know about?
Any podcast Dr Rangan Chatterjee
